Maritime cops catch four illegal fishermen off Naawan

AUTHORITIES on Thursday arrested four men engaging in illegal fishing in the waters off Naawan town in Misamis Oriental.

Insp. Jonas Raymundo identified the suspects as Ronie Acuno, 40, of Barangay  Patag, Naawan; Romeo Lopez Dandasan, 62; Andy Cabarillas, 40; and Dexter Soliven, 38, all of Barangay Linangkayan, Naawan.

Raymundo said the suspects were arrested  when the Regional Maritime Unit of Camp Alagar was patroling the waters of Iligan Bay.

He said the suspects were illegally fishing at a marine protected area in Barangay Linangkayan.

Raymundo said authorities seized a 16-horse powered boat, a fishing net, 60 kilograms of fish, 11 empty boxes, 30 meters of fishing rope and a paddle.

The suspects were detainedby the Maritime Unit in Naawan, and would be charged with violation of Section 86, Article VI of Republic Act 10654. (nitz arancon)
