Misamis Oriental Board Member Gerardo Sabal believes that the clashes between government soldiers and Maoist guerrillas in Minalwang, Claveria were just chance encounters.
Sabal said he doesn’t believe that NPA memeber are residing in Minalwang Claveria.
“Posible ani nga nagtagbo rani sila kay gipahingusgan man sa Armiy ang ilang pagbantay and it is part of their work,” said Sabal.
Sabal pointed out that “dili kana nga area ra gakahitabo ang clash,” so he believes there will be more clashes in the coming days.
As a member of the peace and order committee of the provincial board, Sabal said they, together with Governor Yevgeney Vincente Emano, are closely coordinating with the provincial police and the Army.
However, Sabal added that there should be a more sustainable solution to the insurgency problem in the province.
Sabal said national government and the National Democratic Front should resume peace talks.
