BUTUAN City — A total of P254 million worth of infrastructures and agriculture were damaged due to flooding with losses at the agriculture sector pegged at P80.77 million while losses of infrastructures was pegged at P173.24 million, an official report from the Office of the Civil Defense Caraga Region reads.

OCD 13 said the flooding caused by the tail end of a cold front and trough of low pressure area consequently affected the region, displacing thousands of families.

The red alert status remains up because thousands of families are still in evacuation centers region-wide. OCD added five people have been confirmed dead due to the disaster.

As of Saturday, the Butuan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council estimated that the damages on agriculture could cost P9 million, most of it on ruined rice and corn farms.

About 32,434 families from 39 barangays in Butuan City were affected by floods. A total of 6,093 families fled to evacuation centers. Upon the declaration of a state of calamity, the city government will control increases in prices of basic commodities.
