AUTHORITIES yesterday seized eight thousand rounds of M16 rifle and caliber 30 machine gun ammunition allegedly intended for Marawi in Barangay Camaman-an, this city.

Chief Insp. Ariel Philip Pontillas, chief for intelligence operations of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo), said the bullets were sent from the National Capital Region through a “forwarder” which he declined to name. He explained that the firm’s owners were cooperating with the police.

Pontillas said the bullets were found in a warehouse in Camaman-an at around 3 pm.

Six thousand M16 bullets were placed in six boxes while two other boxes contained two thousand machine gun bullets, he said.

He said the bullets were supposed to be handed over to a “middleman,” a taxi driver who surrendered to the police on Tuesday.

Pontillas said the suspect would be charged with likely be charged with illegal possession of ammunition. The firm, he said, would likely be charged, too. (nitz arancon)
