THE oldest press club in the Philippines has condemned the killing of Dr. Raul Winston Andutan, the medical director of the Jesuit-owned Maria Reyna Hospital.

“The recent spate of killings in our city is worrisome considering that the election fever is about to reach its highest temperature,” Dr. Manuel Jaudian, president of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club, Inc., told Gold Star Daily.

“Imagine sunod sunod (nga) patay tapos some quarters are saying na part sa growing city? Excuse me, when prominent people are executed in broad daylight (it means) di na sila takot sa authority,” Jaudian pointed out.

Earlier today, motorcycle-riding assailants shot and killed the prominent urology surgeon here and also injured an innocent bystander at 12th-29th Sts. in Barangay Nazareth.

“Recently a son of a prominent politician was shot to death in a ‘mafia-like’‘ assassination yet the probe team is still facing a blank wall and now a medical professional was waylaid by riding in tandem the motive is still not known as of this time,” Jaudian said.

The killing of Andutan came less than a month after gunmen killed Roland Sherwin Uy, 45, son of incumbent 1st District Representative and mayoral candidate Rolando Uy a fortnight ago.

Until this day, police have yet to arrest the killers of Uy despite P14-million money raised for their arrests.

“We are earnestly asking our police authorities to look and arrest the culprits if only to reassure our public that peace and order of this city are still under control by police,” said Jaudian.
