MISAMIS Oriental has registered the least malnutrition rate compared to four other provinces in the region, showed a report by the National Nutrition Council in northern Mindanao.

Data in the NNC 2017 consolidated report on the government’s Operation Timbang Plus program show that among the provinces in Region 10, Misamis Oriental had the least number of underweight children based on “weight for age,” said Marites Aceret-Gomez, officer-in-charge of the Misamis Oriental health office’s nutrition division.

She said another indicator was the “length and height for age” — data show Misamis Oriental has no “stunting” problems.

Aceret-Gomez revealed this on Friday as the capitol culminated the celebration of the 44th National Nutrition Month which is mandated under Presidential Decree 491 or the Nutrition Act.

Here, the celebration was highlighted by the 44th Nutrition Month Culmination and Awarding Ceremonies at the capitol grounds led by Gov. Yevgeny Vincente Emano, chairman of the provincial nutrition committee. Gladys Mae Fernandez of NNC-10 graced the celebration.

Awards were given by Emano to Barangay Poblacion in Lugait through municipal nutrition action officer Elenida Reyes and barangay nutrition scholar Puribel Talaroc. Both the barangay and the town government were cited as outstanding in their nutrition campaign, and received plaques and cash prizes.
