COTABATO City– The military here has condemned the communist New Peoples Army for executing a comrade who returned to the folds of the law and live normal life.

Barbaric and very inhuman was how a military official said of the murder in broad daylight of Larry Embac, 49 of Barangay Labuo, President Roxas, North Cotabato.

Five armed men who publicly declared they were members of the NPAs operating in North Cotabato, shot Embac in front of horrified villagers Sunday afternoon.

Colonel Noel Clement, 602nd Infantry Brigade commander, said the attack clearly showed that the NPAs were barbaric and ruthless.

Senior Inspector Romy Castanares, President Roxas police chief, said Embac, 49, resident of Barangay Labu-o was sitting at the waiting shed when the suspects arrived.

Embac knew the five men were NPAs since they were in the same platoon of communist rebels operating in the mountains of North Cotabato.

Gut feeling dictated him he could be the target so he ran and sought cover in the house of a certain Emma Villasor, also in the same village.

But the gunmen chased him and dragged Embac out of the house of Villasor.

In the middle of the road, the five gunmen took turns in firing at Embac who was last seen begging to spare his life since he just wanted to live a normal life.

The victim had multiple gunshot wounds in various parts of his body and died on the spot.

Scene of the Crime Operations of the Pres. Roxas PNP recovered 15 empty shells for 9 mm pistol and cal. 45 pistol.

Police probers could only theorized the motive in the murder of Embac who was once an acting member of the NPAs.

Castanares believed that the NPA killed Embac to prevent him for providing the military with revolutionary information and the plans it will launch against goverment forces in Pres. Roxas.

The attackers chanted “we are NPAs” after they executed Embac.

Early last year, communist guerillas tried but failed to overun the President Roxas police station in an early morning attack.

Outnumbered but determined policemen repulsed the attack and also killed three communist guerillas.
