Calizo wants tanods, cops to include bridges in patrols

The City Council’s Committee on Police, Fire, and Public Safety expressede alarm over the stabbing incident and death of Cherrymae Dayo, who was from San Juan, Balingasag, Misamis Oriental.

Committee chairman Ruben Calizo said he would conduct an ocular inspection along with his committee members, City Engineering Office (CEO) and representatives from the Cagayan de oro City Police Office (Cocpo) of the lower portion of two existing bridges in the city – where street kids and vagrants have reportedly been staying.

Police has identified that the group of Warren Amarga, the prime suspect of the Dayo rape-slay case used the area under the two bridges of Carmen and JR Borja as their hideout and sleeping area.

“This is now a matter of engineering and police solution because we will have to close the area identified as their hideout. Dili man unta kini mapuy-an basta-basta lamang,” he said.

The committee also issued the alarm after local barangay officials from Barangay 7 asked Calizo to take immediate action on the reported area used by the street kids and vagrants as hideout.

Gisil-ip ko na didto and I myself witnessed nga ang mga nagpuyo didto mga ‘vulcaseal boys.’ Naa silay mga balon-balon nga rugby and vulcaseal,” Calizo said.

He said it is  urgent that the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) install fences under the bridges.

Mas daghan didto sa Ysalina Bridge sa Carmen kay mao kadto ang ilang ginapuy-an. There must be an immediate action made by the city government because at their age they already know some syndicated crimes,” he pointed out.

Calizo said he would also recommend before the city council plenary for the review of the law on delinquency.

Kinahanglan ang enforcement ani unya ma-prevent ang potential criminals to do acts which will victimize others like Cherrymae Dayo,” he said.

Initially, he recommended that barangay tanods, officials and the police to conduct visibility patrols in these areas.
