THE commander and members of a police station here are now in hot water after a local radio station reported that it was unmanned in the wee hours yesterday.

Ronde Alicaya, a radio reporter of radio station DxCC, went to Police Station 4 in Barangay Carmen, this city, to gather news from the police station’s blotter for an early morning news program at around 3 am, Wednesday. However, the reporter was surprised to discover the entire police station deserted.

Worse, the reporter added, there were two persons who were trying to get police assistance, and had knocked on the station’s door several times.

The police station was supposed to have been manned by five personnel at that time. SP04 Fernando Laspona claimed two officers did not report for work, two went on field work while another was left alone in the station at that time.

“If probable and later found guilty after summary hearing proceedings, the station commander may be held administratively liable for neglect of duty under the doctrine of command responsibility,” police city director Senior Supt. Faro Antonio Olaguera told the Gold Star Daily in a text message, Wednesday afternoon.

The Carmen police’s station commander is Chief Insp. Joepet Baldonado Paglinawan while his deputy is Insp. Stephen Benbian Latar.

Olaguera added if found guilty, the penalty would span from a reprimand to a suspension. The case is currently under the Criminal Investigation and Detection Management Branch.

Meanwhile, authorities arrested the fifth most wanted drug suspect here during a buy-bust operation on Tuesday evening in Sitio Tulay Semento, Barangay Lapasan, this city.

Agora police chief Ariel Phillip Pontillas said officers and agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) arrested Fretchen “Bobong” Dayondon, 32, of Sitio Tabacco, Barangay Lapasan.

Pontillas said Dayondon’s name is in the list of “Operation Lambat, Sibat,” because of his alleged criminal record. “Most of his cases are related to selling illegal drugs. Ika-lima siya sa watch list,” Chief Insp. Pontillas said.

Seized from Dayondon were a five sachets of suspected shabu with a street value of 10 thousand pesos, and a fully grown marijuana plant in his house, Pontillas said.

Dayondon denied that he was selling drugs in the area, and he accused the police of arresting him without a warrant. He also denied he had marijuana in his house.

“Wala ko napalitan og droga. Wala gyud,” said Dayondon, claiming that he is a law-abiding motorela driver.
