COTABATO City – Agriculture Sec. Proceso Alcala lead yesterday the distribution of P1.32-billion worth of projects and assistance to hundreds of farmers and fishers’ groups as well as to local government units of Region 12. Amalia Jayag-Datukan, DA-12 regional executive director, said it would be Alcala’s third visit this year in the region.

The third visit followed the DA – Ulat sa Bayan – Peace Caravan being carried out in four different areas in North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat provinces and Cotabato City, where Php 400-million worth of assistance was handed to underprivileged and less fortunate farmers affected by conflicts.

She said the scheduled visit of the Secretary was aimed at upholding the continuous efforts of the current administration in pushing for inclusive growth by providing farmers with different interventions, which could facilitate them in improving their farm productivity towards increased production and incomes.

“Secretary Alcala will personally hand-over more than Php1.32-B worth of projects to our farmers and LGU partners to expedite the implementation of various DA projects on the ground and to provide agri-fishery livelihood projects to our farmers which could help them improve their living conditions,” Datukan said.

She added that the activity also aims to sustain the transparency initiatives of the national government by the continuous delivery of remarkable interventions which gear towards the achievement of Food Staples Self-sufficiency Program (FSSP).

PAyapa at MAsaganang PamayaNAn (Pamana) contributed the biggest chunk of about Php 481 million, which will be received by municipal government recipients.

Bottom-up Budgeting (BUB) program, on the other hand, will also turn over Php45.8-M worth of checks and Certificate of Availability of Funds (CAF) to LGUs.

Alcala will also award Certificates of No Objection Letter (NOL) and Certificates of Availability of Funds (CAF) for the Philippine Rural Development Project (PRDP) infrastructure development component at Php336 million, which will fund at least 16 farm-to-market road sub-projects.

Alcala will also turn over projects from DA’s banner programs: Agri-Pinoy Rice Program , Php49.5 million; Agri-Pinoy Corn Program, Php60.9 million; Agri-Pinoy High Value Crops Development Program, Php11.1 million; and Agri-Pinoy Livestock Program, Php 2.2 million. pna
