DAVAO City — About 228 forest guards are set to meet with City Mayor Sara Duterte in a gathering this month.

Chinkie Golle, executive director of Interface Development Interventions (IDIS) told reporters the city’s volunteer forest guards called “Bantay Bukid” will have their final orientation in October with the presence of the mayor.

Golle said the mayor personally wants to thank the forest guards for voluntarily safeguarding and monitoring the watershed areas of the city.

She added that the convention aims to conduct a final briefing and review of the forest guards’ roles and functions along with the other agencies involved.

The forest guards came from the thirteen different barangays within Panigan-Tamugan and Talomo-Lipadas watersheds in the third district.

Golle mentioned that these volunteers are usually residents from the barangays committed to help ensure the protection and management of the areas.

“It’s good to have volunteers from the community since they can easily monitor the situation of the watersheds,” she said.

The Bantay Bukid personnel will also received their P2,000 incentive from the city government last month. (davaotoday.com)
