Health body endorses pact on mental health program

THE proposed Memorandum of Agreement between the city government and the Philippine Mental Health Association (PMHA), Cagayan de Oro City-Misamis Oriental Chapter has been favorably endorsed by the City Council committee on health and sanitation and health insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes Gaane to the committee on laws and rules chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Nacaya for appropriate action.

This covers the implementation of the Mental Health Community-Based Program (MCHBP) in the city.

The PMHA aims to educate health workers in the community so they become advocates for the promotion of mental health and prevention of mental disorders in the community.

Under the agreement, PMHA shall conduct seminars on mental health to 65 Barangay Health Workers through the MHCBP where participants will be trained how to promote mental health through the conduct of “Kalusugang Pangkaisipan” lectures, identify early signs and symptoms of mental disorders, and how to refer individuals with mental health concerns.

The city shall, likewise provide manpower assistance during the implementation of the mental health program. (cio)
