CITY Councilor Teodulfo Lao, Jr will be inviting representatives from the Land Transportation Office, Land Transportation, Franchising, and Regulatory Board, Traffic Administration, and other department heads at city hall to his committee on public utility to decide whether to legalize the operation of tri cabs in the city.
Lao said the meeting aims to legislate an ordinance on the regulations for possibly operating tri cabs in the city.
“Tan-awon nato kon makadugang ba kini sila sa problema sa traffic ug kon tugotan sila nga mamasahero ug kon asang dapita ang ilang area,” Lao said.
Lao added city hall has not issued new permits to operate a motorela due to the traffic problem.
Late last month, LTO regional director Oscar Salcedo suggested that city council ratify an ordinance which will regulate the operation of tri cabs.
He said that as far as the LTO and the LTFRNB are concerned, “tri-cabs” cannot legally be operated on highways and national roads.
“Dili kini sila pwede sa LTFRB because these cannot be considered as four-wheeled vehicles,” he said..
