Normalization for Bangsamoro areas under way: MILF

COTABATO City — The implementing panels of the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) met with members of the different peace mechanisms as part of the preparation for the normalization track – a key process in the implementation of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro between the two parties.

“This is the first panel meeting after the Bangsamoro Organic Law has been passed. This is also the first time that we are meeting all the mechanisms together, both the ceasefire mechanisms and the normalization process mechanisms which include the socio-economic component and this security component, among others,” Undersecretary Nabil Tan, deputy presidential peace adviser and chair of the government implementing panel for the Bangsamoro accords, said.

The meeting here is being held following the ceremonial presentation of the BOL inside the compound of the Armm main office.

The ceasefire mechanisms – International Monitoring Team, Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities, and Ad Hoc Joint Action Group – were created during the early stages of peace negotiations by both sides as their commitment to the ceasefire agreement, and create an environment of peace while the parties are negotiating.

Mohagher Iqbal, the chair of the MILF implementing panel, emphasized the need for all parties to be steadfast.

“Implementation is more difficult than the theoretical side of it. We need to be very creative,” he said. (with reports from bangsamoro peace)
