AS the city government continues to find ways to address traffic and transportation problems, the City Council has enacted an ordinance  authorizing Mayor Oscar Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement with the Philippine Business for Environment (PBE) for the Sustainable Mobility Project (SMP).

In his letter to Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin Uy, Moreno said the SMP framework has been tested in six cities around the world over the last three years and has been proven effective in reducing travel time, air pollution, and emissions by adopting low-investment solutions.

The mayor said the tool will be provided for free, and the city’s counterpart will be its enabling policy support, logistical support and the support of its staff.

Under the agreement, the SMP will create a platform for sectors to work together in using fact-based tools to assess and identify priority mobility problems and address them effectively.

The project aims to provide understanding about urban mobility among the target audience, define the direction, goals, targets, costs and benefits as well as the roles of all involved stakeholders. (clo)
