VICE Mayor Caesar Ian Acenas yesterday said he has yet to make up his mind about whether or not to challenge the likely reelection bid of Rep. Rolando Uy in the city’s 1st District.

Acenas was uncertain, explaining that he was still weighing things because another option would be for him to seek reelection. He said it was his partymates in the Padayon Pilipino who have been prodding him to run for congressman. “Wala pa man pud ko gadali because I still have one more term so amo paning timbang-timbangon.”

Acenas said all political plans would be finalized during the period of filing of certificates of candidacy next month. Meanwhile, Councilor Ramon Tabor, Padayon Pilipino’s presumptive congressional bet in the 2nd District, said more candidates for the congressional seats would be good for the city because that would mean voters would have more options. Tabor lauded Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of the city’s 2nd District, saying he would continue his projects if he becomes the congressman’s succesor.

“Dili ba diay ko makahimo sa pagpadayon sa mga programa nga nasugdan?” Tabor said. Tabor would likely square off with Rodriguez’s brother Maximo Jr., representative of the party-list Abante Mindanao, and ex-councilor Edgar Cabanlas of the administration Liberal Party.

Tabor and Acenas’s party earlier revealed its list of likely candidates to be led by ex-mayor Vicente Emano. The list of candidates for the 1st District includes Jose Pepe Abbu, Inday Dahino, Simeon Licayan, Kauswagan barangay chairman Pedro Balite, Councilor Annie Daba, Lordan Suan, radio commentator Ronnie Waniwan, and Marycor Calizo in the 1st District;
Councilors Nadya Elipe, Yam Lam Lim and Dometilo Acenas, Ian Mark Nacaya, Oscar Musni, Gigi Go, and Suzette Magtajas-Daba in the 2nd District.

Like Tabor, Councilors Dante Pajo, Adrian Barba and President Elipe are constitutionally barred from seeking reelection, and may run for higher office.
