VILLANUEVA Mayor Jennie Rosalie Uy yesterday emerged as the new leader of the town mayors of Misamis Oriental.

Uy was elected president of the League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP) in Misamis Oriental at Luxe Hotel here, replacing Mayor Maximino Seno of Opol town who served as the group’s leader for three years.

The Villanueva mayor, a member of the National Unity Party (NUP) ran for LMP chapter president unopposed. She was chosen by 23 town mayors.

Uy is a daughter of former vice governor and Villanueva mayor Julio Uy and Rep. Juliette Uy of the province’s 2nd District.

Mayor Rey Buhisan of Magsaysay town was elected executive vice president. Others elected were Mayor Marieta Abogado of Balingasag, secretary; Mayor Meraluna Abrogar of Claveria, treasurer; Mayor Seno of Opol, auditor; and Mayor Donato Chan of Medina, public information officer.

The new members of the LMP-Misamis Oriental board for the 1st District: Mayor Mildred Mondigo of Sugbongcogon,  Mayor Angelo Capistrano Jr. of Salay,  Mayor Tomas Gumahin of Binuangan, Mayor  Danilo Lagbas Jr. of Kinoguitan;

For the 2nd district: Mayor Alvin Labis of Alubijid, Mayor Junie Uy of Libertad, Mayor Emmanuel Mugot of Gitagum, Mayor Dadoy Obsioma of Laguindingan.

The new officers were immedietly sworn into office by Rep. Uy of the province’s 2nd District.

Mayor Heckert Emano of Tagoloan said the Padayon Pilipino mayors agreed not to field a candidate against Mayor Uy “alang sa kalambu-an sa among kaponongan, ug sa katawhan sa matag lungsod.”

The Liberal Party (LP) also fielded no candidate against Mayor Uy. NUP and LP coalesced in the May elections.
