THE City Government of Valencia spearheads the 118th Independence Day Celebration with the theme, “Pagkakaisa, Pag-aambagan, Pagsulong” at Plaza Rizal on June 12, 2016.

It was attended by City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas, Vice Mayor Hon. Rolando P. Laviña, City Councilors, Department Heads of Local and National Agencies, employees, Barangay Officials, Veterans, Civic Society Organizations, Faith-Based Organizations and People’s Organizations.

The program started with a motorcade from Oval Grounds to Plaza Rizal then followed by the singing of National anthem and Bukidnon Hymn led by the SP Chorale while the 21-gun Salute was executed by the officers of Valencia City Police Station led by PSUPT. Benbo P. Jumalon. The wreath-laying by the heads of the government agencies then followed.

City Vice Mayor Hon. Rolando P. Laviña gave the welcome address emphasizing the importance of celebrating our freedom.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Hon. Azucena P. Huervas, in her message, she highlighted the sacrifices made by our ancestors in achieving Philippine freedom. She also thanked the veterans and the members of the Valencia City Bukidnon Historical and Cultural Society for gracing the occasion.

22 lovely couples from the LGU departments then joined the fashion show of Filipiniana gowns and Barong Tagalog. The top three pairs who bagged the top spot are Ms. Razel Rosal and Jessie Ongue Jr. of Sangguniang Panlungsod, Ms. April Joy Oro and Mr. Chuck Flores of Human Resource and Management Office and Ms. Yolanda P. Esteban and Engr. Michael Talado of City Economic Enterprise Office as judged by Mr. Efren Leo John V. Aribal, Ms. Lolita L. Garcia and Mr. Rey Dimar O. Lagadlad

Winners of the poster-making contest in line with the Independence Day Celebration were also awarded during the program: Mr. Ree Anthony M. Verde of Brgy. Sinabuagan bagged the 1st Place, Mr. Deither M. Pacapat of Brgy. Sugod got the 2nd Place and Ms. Ana Marrie V. Aurit of Brgy. Pinatilan got the 3rd Place.

Doves and balloons were then released by the City officials and heads of offices to signify freedom and liberty.

City Administrator Atty. Genaro C. Cadigal, Jr. in his closing remarks thanked the City officials and guest for joining the celebration. (EJ Montebon )
