Pigcawayan, Cotabato — A new Sultan sa Buayan will be enthroned at Buluan, Maguindanao.
The new sultan, Sultan Kuso Mangudadatu will be installed after the passing of the former Sultan sa Buayan, the late Sultan Markay in 2004.
Sultan Kuso is the youngest brother of Pua Mangudadatu, The father of Maguindanao Governor Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu.
Despite the existence of modern leaders elected by the people, locals here see traditional leaders’ influence with great significance in the governance of the land especially in a Muslim dominated area like Maguindanao.
The Duterte administration also sees the same, as it also believes that the sultanate can help strengthen the campaign against illegal drugs, crime, and religious extremism.
