Starex-Piston president Bernardo Jamaca announced this over the weekend as he signed a memorandum of understanding with Star 8 Green Technology Corp. in response to the planned phaseout of 15-year old public jeepneys next year.

Jamaca said his group signed the document to improve the jeepney operators’ and drivers’ living conditions.

“Dili na kita ganahan ni-anang sige kita og baklay sa kadalanan aron supakon ang programa sa gobyerno,” Jamaca said.

Engr. Ronald Laurel, who represents Star 8, said the firm would support and provide assistance to the requirements of Starex-Piston members in the region.

Laurel said the firm offers long-term solutions for energy sufficiency and sustainability such as electricity- and solar-powered transportation vehicles that are “eco-friendly, noise-free, and air-pollution free.”

Starex-Piston agreed to organize transport operators and form a fleet management cooperative or group that would oversee the day-to-day operations of the fleet.

Laurel’s firm would provide the group maintenance and troubleshooting training, and other services.
