The victim, identified as Muhammad Amer Haron, had just come from a police station to sign plea bargaining documents related to a drug case, said Senior M/Sgt. Benhur Peñaloga of the Opol police station.

The 55-year-old Haron of Block 30, Vamenta Subdivision, Barra, Opol, succumbed to three gunshot wounds, one to the head and two to the torso, according to Peñaloga.

The victim, Peñaloga revealed, had just been released from the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail where he was detained due to a drug case.

Before the gun attack, witnesses told police that Haron had stood near the highway, waiting for a ride. Suddenly, the gunmen on a black motorcycle struck.

Witnesses said the man seated behind the the motorcycle driver whipped out a gun and shot Haron thrice at almost point-blank range, and then they sped off.

Peñaloga said investigators were still getting more statements from witnesses, and would convince Haron’s family members to charges once suspects are identified.
