THE City Council during its regular session this week has adopted a resolution creating the committee on climate change adaptation and mitigation and disaster risk reduction providing for its duties and functions, amending for the purpose Resolution No. 13322-2019 otherwise known as the 19th City Council House Rules.
As one of the standing committees of the 19th City Council, it shall have general jurisdiction over all matters pertaining to ensuring the mainstreaming of climate change in synergy with disaster risk reduction into the provincial, sectoral and local development plans and programs; and formulation of a framework strategy on climate change to serve as the basis for a program for climate change plannin.
The committe is also tasked to do research and development, extension, and monitoring of activities on climate change; recommending legislation, policies, strategies, programs on an appropriations for climate change adaptation and mitigation and other related activities.
It will also have to create an enabling environment that shall promote broader multi-stakeholder participation and integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation.
