According to the Police Regional Office-13, the entrapment operation was conducted at around 4:30 pm yesterday by operatives of the IMEG Mindanao Field Unit together with operatives of the Agusan del Norte Provincial Intelligence Unit, Regional Intelligence Unit 13, and PNP Special Action Force.

Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel, Jr, regional director of PRO-13, identified the suspect as Capt. Junil A. Gultiano, 44, Officer-in-Charge of Buenavista Municipal Police Station, and resident of Barangay San Vicente, this city.

“The operation was conducted based on complaints from local entrepreneurs that the police officer was extorting an amount of P500 every week from each member of Buenavista Furniture Association and P5 per board feet for every lumber sold. During the entrapment, he received the P1,000 marked money,” said Esquivel.

The suspect allegedly threatened the members of the furniture association that those who refuse to give in to his demand will be arrested or their stores will be subjected to the police operation.

PNP IMEG director Col. Ronald Lee said Gultiano was arrested inside the police station while the suspect was accepting P1,000 from the members of the Buenavista Furniture Association.

“The suspect is in our custody and will be charged for robbery extortion,” said Lee.
