MAYOR Oscar Moreno yesterday assured that the city government will pursue its scholarship program despite the public health crisis gripping the city and the rest of the country.

“We are committed to education. We are molding the future leaders of our society,” Moreno said to point out that despite the Covid-19 threat, the local government has remained focused and committed to its education thrust.

As the city government busies itself in cushioning the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the City Scholarships Office (CSO) under CSO Head Richel Petalcurin-Dahay is coordinating with another group- Center for Education Measurement that will handle the qualifying examinations for potential beneficiaries of city hall’s scholarship program.

Only those who were able to apply online and submitted requirements will be able to take the examinations scheduled next month.

Moreno also tasked the City Scholarships Office to study how the city government can help those who want to take relatively expensive courses like engineering.

Kinsa kadtong tan-aw nato pwede mo-qualify sa engineering courses, we will support you all the way. Dili ta magbahar,” the mayor said.

Last year, the city government awarded scholarship grants to 3,500 deserving students, the highest in the program’s history.

Moreno said he was very glad to note that many of the city’s scholars turned out to be dean’s listers in their respective schools. (Nica Borja of CIO)
