INTERIOR and Local Government Secretary Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr., will meet all governors, city mayors, and re-elected municipal mayors in northern Mindanao who will undergo the basic Newly Elected Officials (NEO) Orientation at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, in Cagayan de Oro today.

DILG-10 regional director Arnel M. Agabe expressed that through the said interfacing, the DILG-10 looks forward to providing an avenue for the LCEs to personally interact with the new DILG Secretary.

Abalos, who served as mayor of Mandaluyong City for three consecutive terms, will serve as a keynote speaker in the orientation and will provide necessary guidance and influence to the participants in fulfilling their mandates while facing governance challenges in their three years in office.

Primed leaders, good governance
Hosted by DILG-10, the Regional NEO Orientation aims to assist the newly-elected officials in navigating their first 100 days in office by introducing them to various local governance and leadership topics, preparing them for their responsibilities, and managing their local government units (LGUs).

Among the topics to be discussed are local development and investment plan, DILG functionality audit programs, duties and responsibilities of elected officials, and the program frameworks of partner regional line agencies (RLAs).

In a simultaneous event, Abalos will also give his message during the Cluster NEO Orientation for newly-minted and comebacking LCEs from Regions 9 – Zamboanga Peninsula, 10 – Northern Mindanao, and 13 – CARAGA.

The NEO program is a simultaneous event hosted by the DILG 10 and Local Government Academy (LGA) which will run from August 2-3, 2022. (DILG-10/PIA-10)
