TRADE and Commerce chair City Councilor George Goking urged strict compliance with public health measures to halt the increase in COVID-19 cases, as the city cannot afford another lockdown.

“We cannot endure another lockdown because of its dire socioeconomic impact. We need to change our behavior,” Goking said in a statement Monday.

Last week. Goking met with the business sector to discuss precautionary measures being undertaken to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

He said he is worried about the rising cases in the city, adding that this will adversely affect the economy.

Goking also disclosed that based on the the Regulatory Compliance Board headed by lawyer Edgardo Uy observed that health protocols in some indoor establishments are not properly implemented by security guards.

There is really a need for immediate solutions such as the checking of the QR code and authentic vaccination cards, strict implementation of the No Mask No Entry Policy, disinfection, and social distancing were recommended, according to Goking.

“Constant reminders are very much needed to prevent the spread of the disease,” Goking added.

Meanwhile, the Cagayan de Oro Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. represented by Steven Teddy S. Tan said the virus will not disappear, thus the need to also strengthen immunity so that the virus will only have a mild effect.

Jeffrey Ang, another representative, added that valuable information and monitoring are also necessary.

He assured that the business sector is willing to help prevent the spread of Covid-19 so as not to hamper businesses that have suffered losses for more than two years.

The committee recommended the full implementation of health protocols, especially in bars and restaurants, according to Goking.

“Cooperation is needed to address the present status so that economy will not be affected,” he said.
