ADDITIONAL funding will be sought by Cagayan de Oro City Hall from the Senate for its City College project which Mayor Rolando ‘Klarex’ Uy assured will open in September this year.

“I told the technical working group that it’s my fervent wish that the City College will open (by September this year) or even before my term ends. This will be a big development for our city’s youth especially the out-of-school youth who will benefit from this…I will also appeal to our friends in the Senate to help fund the City College project,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

So far both Senators Cynthia Villar and Imee Marcos reportedly committed to allocate funds for the City College, one of several priority projects of the Klarex administration under its RISE agenda.

A site inspection of the 46-hectare site in Barangay Dansolihon was conducted last week, Mayor Uy said in his radio program today.

Mayor Uy also said his administration’s City College won’t compete with other established schools.

“Based on my experience as a congressman, you have to elaborate on your proposal..where would this school be and if it’s a duplication (of existing schools that offer similar courses then it’s untenable),” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

About 10 out of the 46 hectares donated by the tribal council of Barangay Dansolihon will house the main campus of the Uy administration’s City College project while demo farms will be set up for the community as their livelihood.

“Precisely why I placed the City College away from the downtown area is because I don’t want to compete with the private schools,” Mayor Uy said in Visayan.

The demo farms to be set up for the residents will be spearheaded by City Hall’s Agricultural Productivity Office. Aside from medical courses and even law, Mayor Uy said the City College will also offer a course on artificial intelligence (AI) for its students.

“I thank the Department of Education (DepEd) regional office for allocating some of its buildings as the initial sites for the City College,’’ Mayor Uy said in Visayan. (Stephen Capillas of City Information Office)
