IN a recent meeting between Cagayan de Oro City 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez and National Commission of Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Region 10 regional director lawyer Leslie Plaza, discussions were held regarding programs aimed at benefiting indigenous communities in the city.

As a result, the NCIP has launched the Educational Assistance Program (EAP) to support approximately 100 scholars at the high school and college levels.

Through the EAP, eligible scholars will receive financial assistance ranging from P5,000 to P10,000 per semester.

Rodriguez has secured a total of P1.5 million in educational aid for 2023, with P1 million allocated for funding and an additional P500,000 for scholarships.

He expressed his gratitude to NCIP Chairperson Allen Capuyan, Director Plaza, and the entire NCIP 10 staff for their efforts in facilitating this assistance for the indigenous population in the city.

The application process for these educational grants is currently underway, managed by the Cagayan de Oro 2nd District Congressional Office.

Successful applicants will be announced on Rodriguez’ official Facebook page and will also receive direct communication from his staff.

In August, a convocation will be held to honor the scholars, with Chairman Capuyan and other key NCIP officials in attendance.

It is worth noting that during the 2022-2023 school year, Rodriguez supported 96 scholars from indigenous communities, providing them with P10,000 per semester (P20,000 per year) for college students, as well as 39 high school students who received cash assistance ranging from P5,000 to P7,500 annually through the same program.
