GINGOOG City ― Barangay Eureka of this city bagged the championship of both the Kaliga Street Dancing Parade and Tableau Competitions at the People’s Grandstand here yesterday.

Eureka received a cash prize of P250,000 plus a championship trophy, and a certificate from City Mayor Erick G. Cañosa who led the awarding ceremony.

The Street Dancing Parade and Tableau Competition were one of the major events of the ongoing one-month-long celebrations of the city’s 63rd Charter Day and 44th Grand Kaliga Festival.

Gingoog became the city under Republic Act 2868 on June 18, 1960, and signed by then-late President Carlos P. Garcia on July 23 of the same year while the Kaliga festival was established also on July 23, 1979, in honor of Higaonon and Manobo tribes in the city.

The first and second runners-up went to Community College of Gingoog City and Kalipay National High School both received cash prizes of P150,000 and P100,000, respectively.

The runners-up also received certificates and trophies said Maggie Zapanta-Tse, co-chairperson of the Heritage Culture and Arts Council, Chair of the Kaliga Street Dancing and Tableau Competition.

The awarding ceremony was done immediately after the Tableau Competition at about 7:00 pm at People’s Grandstand, Tse added.

The Kaliga Street Dancing Parade started at Gaisano Gingoog Mall at 1 pm passing through the national highway then to the Public Market and back to the highway up to the Grandstand, Tse said.

In his message, Cañosa thanked everyone who supported the successful event and all the contingents that participated.
