A veteran combat photojournalist, Froilan Gallardo of MindaNews, was elected as the new president of the Cagayan de Oro Press Club (COPC) by the board of directors on Saturday at the Philtown Hotel and Restaurant in the city.

Gallardo assumed the presidency shortly after the election of the 15 directors during the general assembly. He secured the second position in the elections with 55 votes, trailing behind Hanny Pisos who garnered 59 votes.

The board also appointed the following officers: Executive Vice President Pisos, Vice President for Print Nef Luczon, Vice President for Broadcast Annaliza Amontos-Reyes of RMN, Corporate Secretary Steph Berganio, Treasurer Gal Banaag, and Auditor Joey Nacalaban of Gold Star Daily.

Remaining as board directors are Amor Barlisan, Tony Albania, Jao Gumapac, Ric Ociones, Fred Soriano, Rose Mondejar, Martin Rapanot, Allan Mediante – serving the first six months, and Ronnie Waniwan ― serving the second six months.

Barlisan of Gold Star Daily ranked third in the general election with 51 votes, followed by Albaña with 48 votes, Berganio with 43, Reyes and Gumapac tied with 42, Luczon and Ociones tied with 41, Banaag and Soriano tied with 39, Mondejar and Rapanot tied with 37, and Mediante and Ronnie Waniwan tying at the 15th slot of the board of directors.

However, both Mediante and Waniwan agreed to share their term equally, with Mediante serving as director for the first six months and Waniwan for the second.

The complete results of the general election revealed Richard de La Cruz ranked 16th with 33 votes, Edwin Iyo ranked 17th with 30 votes, Jigger Jerusalem with 29, Roger Satur with 29, Philip Ken Jaudian with 27, Cris Diaz with 24, Joel Jacobo with 24, Lulu Lapada with 24, Ben Balce with 23, past President Richie Salloman with 22, Jig Padua with 19, Uriel Quilinguing with 17, Gerry Gorit with 16, Errand Mercado with 15, John Paul Barsopia with 15, Joe Felicelda with 14, Oscar Caiña with 13, Rene Abris with 11, Sulogan with eight, Domer Postrero with six, and Ernie Balagot with five votes.
