CAMIGUIN Island’s community witnessed a significant financial boost as 3,813 locals, known as Camiguingnons, benefited from a collective sum exceeding 2 million pesos through the TUPAD program and DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood Program.

Chief Arlyn Z. Bael of the DOLE-10 Camiguin Provincial Field Office noted that workers engaged in community service for a 10-day period received 4,050 pesos each for their contributions.

The aid was distributed across the island, reaching residents in various towns: Mambajao saw 1,064 beneficiaries, Mahinog 962, Guinsiliban 440, Sagay 525, and Catarman 822.

This effort was part of a collaboration with the provincial government aimed at alleviating poverty and mitigating the challenges faced by the working poor, marginalized, and seasonal workers.

DOLE-10 extended its thanks to political figures for their unwavering support, including Congressman Jurdin Jesus M. Romualdo, Governor Xavier Jesus D. Romualdo, and the local leadership, which has been instrumental in the program’s success.

Economic growth was further supported by providing livelihood grants on February 2, with the Mantigue Island Motorboat Service Association and the White Island Pumpboat Operators Credit Cooperative each receiving 250,000 pesos from DOLE-10.

The grants, channeled through KASAMMA Chairperson Fernando S. Ocaba, were allocated for the purchase of tools and equipment necessary to establish a motorboat parts and accessories store, creating stable income sources for the member-beneficiaries.

Bael highlighted that these grants are critical in ensuring equipment availability, stable income, improved living conditions, and overall economic stability for the recipients.

To promote sustainable development, the beneficiaries were also given the opportunity to attend training sessions conducted by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board.

The training focused on Service Quality Improvement, targeting enhanced income-generation capabilities through both wage employment and self-employment. (With a report from Recthie T. Paculba)
