HOUSE Committee on Ways and Means gave its nod to a pivotal bill, setting Cagayan de Oro (CDO) on a path to accelerated progress on Monday.

This new entity is poised to be a powerhouse, driving the city’s rapid economic expansion even further.

Rodriguez, the man behind the vision, took the floor and painted a picture of Cagayan de Oro City, a place bustling with activity and growth, a city whose economy raced ahead quicker than most.

He pointed out how the city stood at a crossroads, connecting major urban centers across the Philippines, a strategic spot ripe for further development.

But with great growth comes great responsibility, and Rodriguez knew it was time to unite under one banner for development.

He dreamed of an authority that could streamline policies, making sure everyone in the area could get the best services efficiently and effectively.

“Our city is the gateway to Mindanao,” Rodriguez said, reminding everyone of Cagayan de Oro’s geographical significance.

He envisioned the city’s progress spilling over into nearby towns and cities, nurturing the region’s entire economic landscape.

The MCMDA, as proposed, would take the reins in several key areas: managing the ever-growing traffic, dealing with waste, battling floods, planning land use, keeping the streets clean, and ensuring public safety.

All these tasks aimed to make life better for the city’s residents and visitors.

Rodriguez assured everyone that this new authority wouldn’t step on the toes of local governments. It would work with them, not against them.

According to Rodriguez, this bill had already passed through the Committee on Government Enterprises, and now it was one step closer to becoming a reality.

With a pledge to push for the bill’s approval in the larger plenary, Rodriguez was determined. He saw the MCMDA as a catalyst, one that would unlock Cagayan de Oro’s potential and spread prosperity to its neighbors.

If this vision comes to life, the national budget would fuel the MCMDA’s mission, just as it does for the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
