TALISAYAN Mayor Rico Taray of Talisayan has lauded the efficacy of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in bolstering public safety measures, revealing their significant role in monitoring various incidents, from criminal activities to road accidents.

The mayor unveiled this development last Monday during the introduction of the recently implemented CCTV monitoring project, an initiative valued at P1.5 million.

“Having CCTV cameras strategically placed throughout our town is immensely beneficial in monitoring daily activities and ensuring the safety of our constituents,” Mayor Taray said.

Police Major Joann Navarro, spokesperson for the Police Regional Office-10, concurred with Mayor Taray’s sentiments, emphasizing the instrumental role of CCTV in crime prevention and resolution at the local level.

“CCTV provides invaluable assistance in identifying suspects and deterring criminal activities,” said Major Navarro.

Major Navarro also disclosed that the integration of CCTV systems into Talisayan’s infrastructure was a result of regular peace and order council meetings, spanning from the municipal to the regional level.

“The directive from the national leadership of the PNP underscores the importance of CCTV surveillance in enhancing security measures at the grassroots level,” added Major Navarro, noting the mandate for local governments and private entities, particularly financial institutions, to adopt CCTV installations.

Mayor Taray emphasized the utility of CCTV in monitoring the performance of municipal employees and ensuring productivity during office hours.

With an initial investment of approximately P1.5 million, the CCTV project encompasses the installation of 24 cameras strategically positioned at key locations such as entry and exit points, the town plaza, the church, the public market, and municipal buildings.

Despite ongoing installation efforts, Mayor Taray expressed hopes for future expansions, earmarking potential budget allocations for phase II of the project to encompass comprehensive coverage, including popular tourist spots like Sipaka Heights.

The integration of CCTV systems underscores Talisayan’s commitment to leveraging technological advancements in bolstering public safety initiatives and maintaining vigilance against criminal activities.
