Despite the formidable competition from former Mayor Oscar Moreno and incumbent Mayor Rolando Uy, La Viña believes it’s time for Cagayan de Oro residents to carefully weigh their options.

Ang Kagay-anon angayan hatagan ug maayong pagpili ang pagpili tali sa karaan ug bag-o,” he said.

He challenged residents to evaluate the city’s progress under the current leadership, questioning the status of crucial issues like employment, education, crime, and the ongoing battle against illegal drugs.

Recent concerns over water scarcity have also raised alarms, prompting La Viña to revisit his proposal of tapping into alternative water sources.

La Viña’s proactive approach to governance isn’t new. During past campaigns, he boldly advocated for securing water from Tagoloan, leveraging connections with the Phividec Industrial Estate to ensure a stable water supply for Cagayan de Oro.

While some may view La Viña’s early announcement as premature, he sees it as a testament to his genuine commitment to serve the people of Cagayan.

Meanwhile, Bencyrus Ellorin, political adviser to Mayor Uy, said the mayor is unfazed by La Viña’s declaration.

He affirmed Mayor Uy’s steadfast focus on city governance, emphasizing the democratic principle that allows anyone, within legal bounds, to vie for elective positions.

“Mayor Uy is dedicated to steering the city forward. In a democracy, competition is inevitable,” Ellorin told Gold Star Daily.
