“SEEMS like everybody’s got a price
I wonder how they sleep at night
When the sale comes first and the truth comes second
Just stop for a minute and smile…”

This is one of Jessie J’s songs called “Price Tag”. I think some of you are familiar with the song. Some of you might think money can buy you happiness and mostly all in general. But, it is not.

Our existence doesn’t rely on glamour, money, fame, and fortune. And over time everyone has forgotten about the true meaning of life. How we should celebrate each other, and our differences. We always go back to classifying each other as rich and poor, black or white, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter.

Jessie J is trying to tell us that we put a price on everything, and we forget about what matters, we worry too much about what other people think and we get carried away, so we don’t enjoy life anymore, we put ourselves through this misery and we can choose to stop right now forget about the past.

I’ve been with several people who haven’t experienced what life is beyond money. A good friend of mine has it all. Her house, her car, her career, her fortune but she is not happy with her life. She was alone and somewhat isolated from her family. I checked on her from time to time if she was alright. She goes with her everyday routine for survival. One night, we had a conversation on the phone with her. I asked her, why money is more important to her than life. She said, ” Money is the only way I survived and somehow I get what I want that makes me happy and somehow trying to forget her strained relationship with my dad, who died a few years ago and never had the chance to tell him how much I love him and how sorry I am for not being there for him. Now, I don’t have the face to show up to my family.” I did not judge her ideas about happiness coming from money. Her world revolves around money more than her family, it’s her way of coping with the trauma of the death of her father.

I understand where she’s coming from but at the same time want her to see beyond money or material things and a family is waiting for her.

Even the song is about money or material things that can’t buy us happiness. What if I tell you that whatever we do there is always a price tag, not just a tag but a price that we make in our daily lives? Just like my friend, she chooses money over her family but she has the price to pay, which is the consequences of her actions, whether it is good intentions or bad intentions. She refused to face the reality in front of her because she was traumatized.

For those who wondered why life is a price tag, I ask you these questions.
What is that which you want?
Do you know the price?
Are you willing to pay the price?

Don’t take on something whose price you are not willing to pay. Don’t start getting into a situation if you are not ready to pay the price.
