THE Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD) issued today an urgent advisory regarding a potential interruption in the city’s water supply.

COWD General Manager Engr. Antonio Young informed the public about the steps the water district is taking to manage the possible stoppage of bulk water from Cagayan de Oro Bulk Inc. (COBI) at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

With the help of the city government, the COWD is preparing to secure water from alternative providers to compensate for the anticipated 24-hour disruption.

Residents in several parts of Cagayan de Oro are advised to store enough water in advance, according to Young.

Affected western areas include portions of Lumbia, Pagatpat, Canitoan, Upper Balulang, Upper Carmen, Patag, Bulua, Iponan, Kauswagan, Bonbon, Bayabas and portions of Opol (Igpit & Barra).

Central areas like Upper Macasandig and Tibasak, as well as eastern locations such as Camaman-an and parts of Lapasan, should also prepare.

Young said that to minimize the impact on the community, COWD has arranged for emergency water purchases from other suppliers.

The district is taking proactive measures to ensure residents do not face severe water shortages during the potential interruption, Young said.

COWD’s emergency response includes delivering water to the affected neighborhoods with assistance from the local government unit (LGU), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Climb, and other volunteer fire groups.

He said that this cooperation underscores the community’s commitment to supporting each other in times of need.

In addition to water deliveries, COWD will install water bladders and steel tanks at strategic locations throughout the affected areas.

He added, these temporary water storage solutions will help provide access to water while the regular supply is disrupted.

The water district also plans to implement valving schemes, a method of controlling the flow of water to ensure that it is directed to the areas most in need during the service interruption.

Nevertheless, in his statement, Young expresses COWD’s hope that the negotiations with COBI, scheduled for tomorrow, will resolve the issue and allow for uninterrupted water service.

However, Young said that they are prepared for any outcome and have contingency measures in place to address various scenarios.

“Be assured that COWD has contingency measures in place for any scenario that may occur,” Young reassures the public.

This statement reflects the organization’s commitment to maintaining water service and handling challenges effectively, he added.

“Residents are encouraged to follow the COWD’s updates and prepare as advised,” Young stressed.

The water district is dedicated to ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to manage the water supply during this period of uncertainty, Young added.
