THE Junior Chamber International (JCI) launched its much-anticipated JCI Week 2024 festivities last Thursday under the banner of “Lead to Serve, Make a Difference,” promising a week of impactful events and initiatives.

The opening day commenced with a vibrant parade originating from the Pacifico Hotel, weaving through the streets of DV Soria, culminating at the Pelaez Sports Center. The celebratory spirit continued as participants engaged in a mangrove planting and coastal cleanup at Sitio Malingin, Barangay Igpit, Opol, highlighting their dedication to environmental stewardship.

Ken Francisco, president of JCI Cagayan de Oro chapter, emphasized the significance of the week-long celebration, saying, “Every year we celebrate JCI week. Kini sya is full of community projects, atong mga kalihukan sa atong mga members as well. Karon ato kining gibuhat para ma ilhan pa mi og samot para daghan pa ta matabangan, daghan pa ang mo apil.”

Cagayan de Oro boasts four dynamic chapters within the JCI network: Kagayhaan Gold, Macajalar 24k, Bai Lawanen – the pioneering all-women chapter in Mindanao, and Cagayan de Oro – the trailblazing all-male chapter.

These chapters are set to collaborate on various activities throughout the week, showcasing their collective commitment to community betterment.

The week’s agenda includes a spectrum of activities such as training sessions, career talks, the impactful “Beyond Prison Walls” initiative featuring a visit to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail, and the spirited Baila Sportsfest.

JCI, an esteemed international non-profit and non-governmental organization, comprises young individuals aged between 18 and 40, operating in approximately 124 countries. Its vast network spans national, regional, and local organizations, each dedicated to fostering positive change within their communities.
