A fire that broke out at approximately 7:00 am on July 1 in Lapak, Purok 5, Barangay 18-A, Gingoog City, has destroyed at least nine houses, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).

The BFP confirmed that the homes, mostly constructed from light materials, were completely damaged. The fire, reported to the BFP at 7:13 am, was brought under control by 7:45 am and declared extinguished at around 11:00 am, under the command of Sr. Insp. Randy Obsioma, Acting City Fire Marshal.

No casualties or injuries were reported, but the blaze caused an estimated damage of P900,000 and left 19 families homeless. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

On July 2, Gingoog City Mayor Erick G. Cañosa personally provided financial assistance to the fire victims. The mayor also visited the site to assess further recovery needs and instructed the City Social Welfare Development (CSWD) to distribute food packs, family kits, hygiene kits, rice, and other essential items to those affected.
