ZAMBOANGA City– Seven civilian bystanders were injured in a grenade throwing incident perpetrated by suspected Abu Sayyaf member early Tuesday in Sulu, a top military official disclosed.

Col. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, disclosed the incident took place around 7:15 a.m. Tuesday along Scot Road, Jolo, the capital town of Sulu.

Arrojado said a truck of the Army’s 32nd Infantry Battalion was passing in front of HadjiButo Schools of Arts and Trade along Scott Road when a suspected Abu Sayyaf member hurled a fragmentation grenade.

Arrojado said the grenade thrower missed his primary target, the military truck, and did not inflict casualty on the government troops on board.

However, he said the grenade landed near a group of bystanders, who were injured during the incident. pna
