MANILA – The stock market extended its winning streak for the sixth straight day Wednesday, fueled by corporate earnings for the first semester.

The benchmark index surged 64.26 points, or 0.85 percent to 7,662.55 from previous day’s 7,598.29 finish. In a market report, online brokerage firm 2TradeAsia.com said continued buying among locals boosted the local bourse, especially large-cap stocks that have reported encouraging first-half earnings results.

Almost all counters were in the positive territory, led by property counter that surged 1.69 percent.The mining and oil index declined slightly.

The day’s top active stocks were led by Universal Robina Corp., Pacific Online Systems Corp., Metropolitan Bank and Trust Company, BDO Unibank Inc., Globe Telecom Inc., Ayala land and others.

Volume of transactions reached 2.55 billion shares valued at Php9.05 billion. Advancers outnumbered decliners, 94 to 69, while 47 issues were unchanged. pna
