KORONADAL CITY– Police and military personnel prevented the entry of two armed men, believed to be gun for hire, into this city where the International Folklore Festival have been on going.

Police, led by Senior Inspector John Maynard Macusi and Sgt. Nelson Jun of 27th Infantry Battalion, flagged down a motorbike with two men on board for inspection.

But the two men yielded cal. 45 pistol each but could not present documents legalizing possession of high powered guns.

Macusi identified the two as Arpin Lumupog Alfonso, 39 and Tom Miskinan Lumupong, 42 of Barangay Simsiman, Lutayan, Sultan Kudarat.

They were stopped at a checkpoint in Purok Tagumpay, Barangay General Paulino Santos, Koronadal City on Saturday morning.

Police are readying charges against them for violation of Republic Act 10591 (Illegal Possession of Firearms).

Macusi said the two refused to issue any statement what was their purpose in coming to the city where an international event has been on going. They could not explain either why they carry high-powered guns with several ammunition even without documents.

The arrest of Alfonso and Lumupong rose to seven the number of persons arrested in the city in five days.

Koronadal City is hosting the Council for International Organization of Folklore and Folkarts-Koronadal City International Folklore Festival (CIOFF-KCIFF).

The event which started on August 10 is participated in by delegates from Japan, Indonesia, Poland, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, Sri Lanka, Chinese Taipei and Turkey.

It will culminate on August 18. (pna)
