CARASCAL, Surigao Sur—Mayor Vicente T. Pimentel has sustained this year the implementation of his scholarship program that benefitted the poor and deserving students in this town.

The mayor’s scholarship program was implemented four years ago up to this time that already benifitted one hundred fifty scholars.

CheztonAzarcon, a private secretary of Mayor Pimentel said education is the forefront of the local government’s development agenda with substantial budget allocation provided by the office of the mayor.

Azarcon, designated point man of the project   Scholarship for Carascalon on Life Scales(SCOLS) said that the program of the chief executive has helped the students whose parents are incapable of sending their students to college due to financial difficulties.

The scholarship program with an appropriation of P2 million was initially launched in 2010 with an initial 40 scholars. Out of this number there were already 29 students successfully graduated.

In an interview, Mayor Pimentel said the SCOLS project is part of his administration’s flagship program to reduce the number of out-of-school youth in town, lessen illiteracy rate, and alleviate the living condition of every Carrascalon family.

He added that this project links up to the mandate of the   State to protect and promote the rights of all citizens for education at all levels, adding that “quality education should not be limited only to the well off-off families.”

Education, he said, can’t be measure by money, fame and other things for this is the key to success in achieving goals we envision in life.’

“This is why the program continues to inspire us here in the local government for the past four years, we have been recipients of enduring praises and gratitude from successful scholars, proud parents and appreciative citizenry for what they themselves described as a strong legacy that will last for generations to come, Pimentel said.
