BUTUAN CITY — Unidentified armed highway robbers were able to cart away at least P320 thousand worth of cash and other personal valuabe items after they flagged down a refrigerated delivery van, at gunpoint, along national highway in Sitio Abihao, Barangay Bitaugan West, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur on Friday.

Report from Cagwait, Surigao del Sur Municipal Police office revealed the Reefer Van Truck Fuso bearing Plate No. RMH 761 was owned by businessman Vivencio P. Ocite Jr of Rosario, Agusan del Sur.

Authorities identified victims as Butch Larrobis Alvarez, 41, the van’s driver with his spouse Jenebel Langcuas Alvarez, 40, a sales representative of the same company. The couple are residents of Bayugan 3, Rosario, Agusan del Sur.

Truck helper was identified as Marjun Silong Mabong, 25, single and resident of Barangay Wasian, Rosario, Agusan del Sur.

Initial official police investigation result showed that the refrigerated delivery van was returning home to Rosario, Agusan del Sur where Ocite Livestock Farm, Storage and Sales Office is located from Tandag City, when upon reaching the ascending portion of the national highway they were suddenly flagged down by three armed suspects wearing ski-masks, black shirts, and black pants. Their heights were estimated to be between 5’6” and 5’5”, all three were medium built, and armed with undetermined caliber of pistols.

Police said suspects fired two times and fled towards Marihatag town. Personnel of the Cagwait Municipal Police Office have launched a pursuit operation in coordination with Surigao del Sur Police Provincial Police.
