BUTUAN CITY- Department of Health regional office has reported a 75% increase in the first quarter of this year particularly in the month of January as compared to same period last year affecting majority males with about 232 males already affected with only 15 females officially reported affected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus-Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (HIV-AIDS) in the region.
In the official disease surveillance report of DOH 13 Regional Epideomology and Surveillance Unit revealed that in January 2016 alone, seven new HIV-AIDS cases were reported to the government registry and confirmed by the STD/AIDS laboratory which is 75% higher compared to same period last year.
The seven new HIV/AIDS cases in the region are all males affected and formed part of the total 247 cases of HIV/AIDS cases reported in Caraga Region from 1995 to first quarter this year.
DOH-Caraga regional information officer Romelyn Torralba said that over-all data showed 46% of those affected with HIV/AIDS in Caraga Region have ages ranged from 25 to 34 years old of males mostly heterosexuals, bisexuals and homosexuals.
The youngest to be infected is an 18-year-old male, while the oldest is a 67-year-old.
