Also hurt were Cjay Nabale, 13, Christian Montegro, 12, and Jimmy Nabale, 51.

How the couple is related to the other victims remains unclear at presstime.

SPO2 Marven Ballentos said Tyson died on the spot. Angela died on the way to a hospital in Cagayan de Oro, said Jocelyn Lorejo of the Misamis Oriental Provincial Hospital.

Ballentos said the driver claimed that the steering wheel of the van malfunctioned, and he lost control of the vehicle.

The car overturned and slammed against railings at the approach of the bridge.

Witnesses said the vehicle moved so fast that it “flew” after it reached a protruding spot on the highway, overturned, and then slammed against the railings. They said some of the victims were thrown off.
