GINGOOG City–Officials of the Department of Education (Deped) on Thursday led the burial rites for the 10-year old pupil who was raped and strangled in Bal-ason here early this week.

Assistant schools division superintendent Edgar Abanil said the Deped in this city would be supporting the girl’s family in their search for justice.

Mario Endrina, education program supervisor here, said the funeral was attended by the victim’s teachers, classmates and friends, including barangay officials. About 100 villagers paid their final respects to the victim.

“Family, friends and faculty members of her school are now yearning for justice,” he said.

The victim, a 5th grader at the Bal-ason Elementary School, was raped and strangled allegedly by two brothers at a grassy area in Sitio Indalong, Bal-ason.

Police arrested the same day 18-year old Fernand  Quiraban and his brother, a minor. The younger Quiraban  confessed to raping and killing the girl together with his brother.
