City Councilor Edna Dahino reported before the Committee on Engineering to immediately conduct investigation on aid of legislation on her observation when she visited the area.

“I ask the committee to look into the safety of the footbridge that connects the two malls along CM Recto Avenue. Since its opening of the project to the public, we received many complaints and apprehensions on its serviceability and its conditions,” she said.

She added apprehensions come from the people who watched the procession of the Black Nazarene and Sinulog Festival from the footbridge.

Kung modaghan na ang mosaka sa maong footbridge mag-kurog kurog. Dili ba kini delikado sa public. DPWH must explained this kind of project nga murag depektoso gyud sa akong paminaw,” Dahino said.

She also claimed that the footbridge designers linking Gaisano and Centrio Malls along CM Recto Avenue here may have underestimated the volume of pedestrian traffic crossing the footbridge.

Dahino said overflowing of pedestrians is not only observed during special holidays but also even ordinary days during rush hours.

“Those in the wheelchairs cannot avail of the footbridge and instead endanger themselves when they pass through the pedestrian lanes along the national highway.
