The culture of Mindanao is slowly fading, in some Filipinos – especially in this generation. They do not see how important the culture of Mindanao is in general; it defines who we are as Mindanaoans – This is our heritage.

Native People face not only poverty, but also vanishing cultures. That is why Mr. Jerome De La Fuente the General Manager of Limketkai Luxe Hotel wanted to bring back the importance of Northern Mindanao’s culture.

As a reminder of who we were, are, and will be. Embracing one’s identity, it transcends both religion and technology.

Through this, he created a showroom to display homegrown works and local products of Mindanao, which aims to promote the city’s rich culture, crafts, talents and skills, he called this project Lokal Lokal.

Lokal Lokal is a project or a showroom that would subsequently help Northern Mindanao’s culture back to its place. Talented people from all over Mindanao will showcase their crafts at Limketkai Luxe Hotel to encourage and prove to its visitors that Mindanao is a safe and growing city far from the stereotypical and bias views of others.

“The master plan here is to make Limketkai Center the heart of Cagayan de Oro to showcase what Northern Mindanao has to offer. When tourists come and prove it is safe here, then they will surely invest here,” he said.

“We need to prove to them that Mindanao is a safe place, we won’t let them picture out that Mindanao is a killing place. In general, Cagayan de Oro is peaceful; I always wanted to produce that Cagayan de Oro as the business hub,” Jerome said.

Mr. Jerome wants to show Mindanao products and how talented Mindanaoans are. He already featured Mindanao products such as bags, pots, creative talents, papers, homegrown fashion designers’ works, abaca and handicrafts.

For this month Gil Macaibay, the Prince of Haute Couture showcased his creations for June brides, displaying different gowns every week.
