Kolambogan, Lanao del Norte — Residents here said they feel secure with police protection that they do not have reasons to keep guns in their residences anymore.

Mayor Lorenzo V. Mañigos explained that residents owning firearms was necessary to protect themselves from armed groups.

“But now, we have surpassed the crisis with the help of our men in uniform,” the mayor said.

For his part, Lt. Col. Ronel R. Manalo, commanding officer of the 5th Mechanized Battalion said the successful endeavor is the result of a combination of efforts conducted through series of dialogues and meetings between the military and local government officials of the municipality.

Mañigos led the turnover of 54 assorted loose firearms and ammunition surrendered by residents and village officials to the military here recently, which include three fragmentation grenades, two rifle grenades, 22 assorted magazines.
