Cagayan de Oro City Administrator Teodoro Sabuga-a, Jr. warned all motorela drivers and operators against overcharging commuters by collecting P8 fare because of the continued increase of prices of petroleum products.

Sabuga-a said he already tasked the City Price Monitoring and Control Council to verify and made a standard report on the specific price of petroleum imposed by the local gasoline dealers to public utility vehicles including motorela units plying all over the city.

“It is not an automatic imposition. We need verification units like City Price Monitoring and Control Council to report officially the prices monitored before any fare increase would also increase,” he said.

However, the latest report from the CPMCC showed that the latest rollback imposed to the local oil market specified that prices special or premium gasoline are within the range of P54.60 to P54.70.

Sabuga-a said in view of such verification report, the fare matrix for motorela units is still pegged at  P7 pesos for the regular passengers, while P5.50 for high school, college students, senior citizens, and person with disabilities, and P4 for the elementary pupils.

The fare matrix is based on the Ordinance No. 13431-2016.

Wala pa’y increase, P7 pa gihapon,” he said.

The immediate verification was done following the complaints of the riding public brought to local television and radio stations that some drivers plying from Divisoria to Macasandig and Nazareth started collecting P8 of fare allegedly due to the rapid increase of oil prices in the past weeks.

Wala may problema sa pagpasaka sa presyo basta kung molapas lang sa P55 kada litro,” Sabuga-a explained.

He urged the public to immediately report to the nearby traffic enforcers, police units, and even his office on any motorela drivers or operators that increase the collection of motorela fare plying around the city.

Sabuga-a said the city government or even through the Roads and Traffic Administration, and Cagayan de Oro City Police Office can sanction violators with P500 administrative fines.
